Of the 15 largest predators to ever walk the earth or swim the oceans, two still exist today. And one of them is at the top of the list…
Sperm whales hunt thousands of feet below the surface, turning onto their backs and looking up to see the silhouettes of squid against the surface light far above. While their ordinary prey is medium-sized squid, they will also hunt the colossal squid, which happens to be the only other extant species on the list of largest predators ever.
